I just finished up the last edits of my new novella Paracus: Succession. This was a lot of fun for me to write and I’m a little sad that it’s finished. I enjoyed spending time again with these characters and visiting the world of Paracus. The novella is available for pre-order and releases March 13th!
I started my writing classes back in May of 2014. Now, less than a year later, I am wrapping up my last one for my degree in English. It’s a bittersweet moment for me, because while I’ve learned a lot from these classes, I am going to miss them. It’s been a while since I’ve paid this website much attention, but as the chapter closes with my courses, a new one opens that allows me to devote more time to living my dream of being an author once again.
I have nine classes left in my degree, most of which concentrates on Literary Theory, Shakespeare, and other subjects. I know that those courses will make me a better writer even though they’re not exactly ‘writing’ classes, so I am excited to keep the ball rolling.
The interesting part about finishing the writing classes is I feel like there is more to learn, but that’s the way it always is. I do believe they’ve made me a better writer, so they were most definitely worth it. The professors at the American Military University have been great and the courses were both challenging and engaging.
Anyway, with the end of my novella course comes the announcement of a sequel to my novel Paracus, or, to be more accurate, a prequel.
Paracus: Succession is the untold story of Amelia (formerly Anemlia) Roummos and her controversial shift from being an adviser to the late Sorin Roummos, to being placed in the line of succession. The story answers a few questions about how Amelia came to be and why she developed into the person she becomes ten years later.
Paracus: Succession is currently available for pre-order for $0.99 and will release March 13, 2015.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be posting the future of this website and what I intend to do from then and on. Thank you for all the support and feedback I have received. I am looking forward to applying what I’ve learned to Paracus and getting started on my next projects to follow. Take care!
So I finally picked up the Harry Potter books. I’ve seen all the movies, so I thought it was time to take a look at this series in its written form. The quicker prose is a nice reprieve from the much lengthier and more descriptive books I’ve been reading like George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series —- not to say they’re not enjoyable books, because they are.
Meanwhile, I recently came across this website: https://readersfavorite.com/book-reviews.htm
Readers’ Favorite is a rapidly growing review and awards website dedicated to authors of all kinds. I’ve not heard much about them before today but they offer free reviews to self-published authors. For you writers out there, it’s worth researching it a little bit. I’ll be looking into it more once I’m finished getting the changes in Paracus done.
Writer’s Digest’s next E-Books competition is coming up and the deadline is September 2nd! I’ll be entering into it once again, hoping to see how Paracus does. I appreciate all the feedback I’ve received from agents and editors alike and hope to use what I learned as I move forward with this project.
In other news, I’m nearly a full-time student at American Military University. I found out they have a great Creative Writing program, so I transferred my credits and signed up! If I can remain on schedule, I’ll finish my degree by next May. Wish me luck!
I recently discovered this website: http://www.advancedfictionwriting.com/articles/snowflake-method/
It provides a great resource on how to help develop scenes and novel outlines. Check it out!
Having a nice Sunday as I recover from the THOR. I ran with a few fellow training leaders from the 362nd Training Squadron. We had a great time and I’m looking forward to participating next year.
Paracus is currently on sale for free! The promotional sale ends 15th of April so grab a copy and leave me some feedback. I look forward to hearing from you as I take the next step in the writing world.
I’ll be participating in the THOR (Texoma’s Hellacious Obastacle Run) in Wichita Falls, TX tomorrow. Apparently this is the MPEC’s biggest THOR event yet, so I’m really excited to see what they did this year. I’ll be recording the run with a helmet camera and will upload the video once it is finished.
So here is an update with what is going on with Paracus.
The big update was made live a few days ago. I’ve been going through it chapters at a time and making minor tweaks, but the bulk of the errors I needed to fix have now been corrected. Thanks for all your feedback and support in that!
I recently sent out a few query letters to some agents in hopes of getting a bite. I sent a query to a pretty big agency and….they replied! I remember getting the e-mail notification at work and how excited I was. The agent asked for my complete manuscript and a two week exclusive. I sent it to him that day (which was on the 12th of March) and am awaiting his response.
Keeping my fingers crossed!
